I want to remember my citizenship in the Kingdom of Heaven. Lent Week 2, Day 9
“But we are citizens of heaven, exiles on earth waiting eagerly for a Liberator, our Lord Jesus the Anointed, to come and transform these humble, earthly bodies into the form of His glorious body by the same power that brings all things under His control” (Philippians 3:20).
I am weary.
Weary of people who claim to be leaders openly lying and manipulating people to promote their platforms.
And I am weary of people who claim to be citizens of the Kingdom of God giving a pass to those leaders.
And I know I am one of those people: “My politician’s lying and manipulating is not as bad as your politician’s lying and manipulating. My side knows what’s best. Your side just sucks.”
Why can’t I remember that the people I vote for in earthly elections are not my Savior? No one in Congress is a Messiah.
I want change to happen. I want justice to reign. I want equality and fair treatment. I will vote for the people I think will bring that. I will advocate for the people who are victimized. I will provide a voice for those who are voiceless.
But I must stop thinking that anyone on this earth is going to bring change. At least not the change I am longing for.
